Day 21: Cumbia

Image
ONE HUNDRED TWENTY DAYS IN 120 WORDS Readings for EFL Students CUMBIA Grammar Point: Used To I didn’t use to like cumbia . When I used to work in Lima, the trips I would make in combis to and from work were not fully enjoyable because combi drivers there play cumbia most of the time. Here in the north of Peru, cumbia is even more popular than in Lima. People play it all the time, everywhere. When I go to work, there is cumbia in the combi . If there is a party, most of the songs are cumbia songs. Even though I used to prefer other kinds of music, cumbia is now part of the many memorable experiences I am having here . Today, I want to thank God for all the memories that will come to my mind when I listen to cumbia in the future. READ MORE HERE. Cargando…

Day 20: The Doors That Do Get Opened

Image
ONE HUNDRED TWENTY DAYS IN 120 WORDS Readings for EFL Students THE DOORS THAT DO GET OPENED Grammar Point: Zero Conditional The volunteer work my friends and I do helps people─in part─improve their reading skills. To reach those in the area, we carry out a door-to-door activity. Of course, not all the doors get opened. However, if people show interest, we tell them about our free educational program. If they have a smartphone, we help them download an app with readings available at any time. We offer to come back if we receive a sincere smile in return. Last week, Jorge─a carpenter─welcomed us to his workshop. He stopped working for a few minutes to listen to us. He was happy to learn that, after downloading the app, he had many books and magazines for his entire family─at no cost! The smiles we see when doors do get opened are priceless. READ MORE HERE. Day 19: Kindness to Strangers

Image
ONE HUNDRED TWENTY DAYS IN 120 WORDS Readings for EFL Students KINDNESS TO STRANGERS Grammar Point: Definite and Indefinite Articles─and Zero Article Last year, many families showed me hospitality by letting me stay overnight in their houses─when needed. Each bedroom was particularly different. The first one I stayed in had mosquito nets to prevent dengue. Another bedroom was close to a pen─with sheep! One room had guitars and amplifiers. A different bedroom had a bird─a canary─in a cage. The coldest room had a bed with 4 blankets! From the biggest bedroom, I could enjoy the sunset and hear the sound of sea waves. Another room─very bright early in the morning─had a glass door and big windows. The last family I stayed with gave me a room with a huge bed and the fanciest comforter of all─made in France. This year, I want to be as hospitable as all these families. READ MORE HERE. Cargando… Solicita información aquí

Day 18: Making Others Smile

Image
ONE HUNDRED TWENTY DAYS IN 120 WORDS Readings for EFL Students MAKING OTHERS SMILE Grammar Point: Gerunds Making others smile is a source of contentment. Helping friends create memories is rewarding. Smiles and memories unite people through good and bad times. They make men and women, young and old feel good when individuals most need it. The smiles that once adorned others’ faces eventually come to and stay with us, making us smile in return. That’s why most of us think that giving of our time, resources, energies, and any other thing we have to help a friend build memories makes everyone involved happy. That’s how I feel today, many years after one of the most memorable experiences in my life─the day I was there for a friend when he proposed to his girl. They’re happily married now, building their own memories and making others smile. READ MORE HERE. Cargando… Solicita información aquí
