Day 23: "Have a Seat, Please"
Readings for EFL Students
“HAVE A SEAT, PLEASE”
Grammar Point: Or, But, So, and Because
Most people are kind to strangers here─especially in remote areas. When my friend and I do volunteer work and visit people at their homes, they always greet us kindly after opening their doors. They do not know my friend and me but they let us in. Then, they grab a chair or a stool and say, “Have a seat, please.” That is how they show their kindness and hospitality. We should not decline their invitation to sit. That would be disrespectful, so we always sit. Sometimes there are only chairs for my friend and me, not for the householders. When that happens, they stand in front of us until we leave because they want us to feel welcomed. Today, I want to thank God for these people’s kindness.
