They are very generous people. For example, when inmates need hard copies of educational materials in their languages, the volunteers generously print them. When they have free time, they make cookies for the inmates! Those foreigners love the whole group of volunteers for their generosity. As soon as some representatives of an Asian country in Peru learned about the hard work of these volunteer workers, they visited the volunteers’ branch in Peru and made a generous contribution. It’s on Venezuela St., between Husares de Junin Ave. and Estados Unidos St.─in Trujillo. America, a very outgoing and hardworking woman, has many types of sandwiches and drinks. I love her tamal sandwiches! America always gives you some yapa, extra drink at no cost; so, you can have almost two glasses of the drink of your choice for S/. 1.00. Doctors, police officers, taxi drivers, teachers, students, and people who live in the area─including many friendly Venezuelans─have breakfast at America’s. I always look forward to those breakfasts. ONE HUNDRED TWENTY DAYS IN 120 WORDS Readings for EFL Students MY CURRENT JOB Grammar Point: Present Continuous for the Extended Present These months, I’m working for a big language center in Trujillo. I’m teaching English there only on Saturdays and Sundays until I go back to Lima. This has changed my weekend routine. For example, since I live in a small town two hours away from Trujillo, I’m getting up at 5:15 a.m. on weekends and I’m taking two combis to be at work before 9:00. Also, I’m having breakfast and lunch in Trujillo on those two days. Although I’m not doing volunteer work on weekends now in the small town where I live─and I’m traveling a long distance to go to work, having this weekend job is a positive change.
